OBJECT PERMANENCE | YORK CALLING
New Music: Elly Kace – Wild Horses
By Graeme Smith
I first featured New York experimental artist Elly Kace on this blog back in November 2021, and she quickly became one of my favourite artists I’ve had the pleasure of covering. More recently, I ran the rule over her track Disappear, which she has quickly followed with a cover of The Rolling Stones’ Wild Horses.
The only way to cover such a classic track is to make it completely your own, and that’s what Elly has done with Wild Horses. A slowed-down, contemplative version of the original rock ballad, it’s delivered through layers of vocals and mournful peddle steel guitar. It’s unmistakably Elly’s. Written in order to channel grief, there won’t be a dry eye in the house by its climactic end.
