“What does the concept of “home” mean to different people? This disc features new works, commissioned by mezzo-soprano Blythe Gaissert from eight American composers, which address themes from dislocation and immigration to love and mourning. The spur for the disc came when Gaissert saw news reports about families being separated at the US/Mexico border. “We started having all these horrific stories…about children isolated from their parents,” she says. “When I approached the composers this resonated with them as well, both personally and in a larger social sense”.
