ABOUT
The second album from intrepid string quartet PUBLIQuartet, winner of Chamber Music America’s 2019 Visionary Award, Freedom & Faith, features artists whose music represents resilience, resistance, and subversion; all of them also happen to be women. The album repertoire comprises music from two of PUBLIQuartet’s signature initiatives: MIND | THE | GAP, collaborative compositions and improvisations by the four members of the group; and PUBLIQ Access (PQA), a genre-independent program that commissions new works for string quartet by emerging composers living within the U.S. Running through the entire album is the spirit of collaboration and spontaneity that embodies PUBLIQuartet’s mission.
PUBLIQuartet is: Curtis Stewart & Jannina Norpoth, violins; Nick Revel, viola; Amanda Gookin, cello

ABOUT PUBLIQuartet:
Applauded by The Washington Post as “a perfect encapsulation of today’s trends in chamber music,” and by The New Yorker as “independent-minded,” PUBLIQuartet’s creative programming lends a fresh perspective to the Classical music scene. Dedicated to presenting new and innovative works for string quartet, PUBLIQuartet was selected as Concert Artists Guild’s New Music/New Places Ensemble at the 2013 CAG Competition, and then garnered Chamber Music America’s 2015 ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award and Chamber Music America's 2019 Visionary Award for outstanding and innovative approaches and programming in contemporary classical, jazz, and world chamber music. PQ’s genre-bending programs span the classical canon and also feature open-form improvisations that expand the techniques and aesthetic of the traditional string quartet.
