Drew Fleming
Drew Fleming is a Ph.D. candidate in the department of Music at the CUNY Graduate Center. He holds a BA in Music and an MA in Music History from CCNY. His dissertation will examine several styles of metal music through the lens of modern theories of groove and rhythm, in an attempt to theorize a notion of extremity that involves cognitive and bodily experiences of the music. Drew has taught several undergraduate-level writing intensive courses at City College and Manhattan College on the social histories of rock, jazz, and classical music, as well as classes on music theory and music technology at Hunter College. In addition to his academic pursuits, Drew plays guitar, sings in, and co-leads the critically-acclaimed eclectic ensemble, Bombay Rickey.
